Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage

What is Part D: Medicare Prescription Drug Program (PDP)?
In 2003, Congress helped to enact sweeping healthcare changes, know as the Medicare Modernization Act: the introduction of Medicare Part D. These changes will now make it easier for people enrolled in Medicare to get quality prescription drug coverage. If you're eligible for Medicare, you will now have a new option for getting coverage to help with the cost of prescription drugs.

Equitable Life & Casualty and PDP options:
Equitable Life & Casualty takes the healthcare of our policyowners very seriously and we want to offer our policyowners an “Equitable” choice for a Prescription Drug Program. For 2008 we are continuing our partnership with United Healthcare to offer it’s “UnitedHealth Rx plans (Basic and Value). UnitedHealth Rx is a prescription drug plan that is approved by Medicare and is provided by United Healthcare Insurance Company. We are continuing our partnership with Aetna Medicare. For 2008 we will offer Aetna Medicare’s 3 PDP plans: Essentials, Plus and Premier. One of the main reasons for this addition is to offer our policyowners a Prescription Drug coverage option in the coverage gap “doughnut hole” with another nationally insurance provider. Either of these programs can be purchased as early as November 15, 2007 with coverage beginning as early as January 1, 2008.

Who is Eligible?
Anyone who is eligible for Medicare Part A or enrolled in Part B is eligible to enroll in the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program. If you qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid - "dual eligible" - you’re also eligible for the Medicare Prescription Drug Program and to receive extra help paying for your prescriptions.
